Miner's Ace Hardware
Miner's Ace Hardware is a family business founded in 1956 by brothers, Lee and Glenn Miner. Both Lee and Glenn had worked in their parents’ (Abe and Bee Miner) hardware store in Culver City during the late 1940's and early 1950's. As a family they had often visited the Central Coast to vacation, go deep sea fishing, and dig for clams. When a small hardware store in Grover Beach (located in the building to the immediate west of the present Grover Beach Store) came up for sale, the brothers were able to purchase the business and move their young families out of Los Angeles.

For the next several years both Lee and Glenn (and their first employee Wally Lewis) worked tirelessly to build the business. Seventy-hour weeks were the norm and profits were continually reinvested into the business to fund expansion. In 1964 Glenn purchased Lee's share of the business and managed the store with the help of Wally Lewis. In 1972 Miner’s joined Ace Hardware, a buying co-op owned entirely by independent dealers. This strategic alliance allowed Miner’s to leverage the buying power of almost 5,000 Ace Stores, and remain competitive against the growing “Big Box” trend.

In 1982 Mike Miner, Lee’s oldest son, was named President of Miner’s Ace Hardware. Mike had worked in the store during high school and while attending Cal Poly. After college he became a licensed contractor, and later managed a successful major appliance store with his father, Lee, but eventually returned to the family hardware business. The ensuing years saw significant change and expansion as Miner’s Ace Hardware began to branch out.

Grover Beach experienced several expansions that eventually quadrupled its size.
Arroyo Grande was opened in 1986 and expanded in 2002.
Morro Bay opened in 1997 and was moved to its new location in 2007.
Los Osos opened in 2000.
Atascadero opened in 2002 and was rebuilt after a fire in 2003.

Mike’s son-in-law, Paul Filice, began working in the business in 2004 and was soon managing the Morro Bay location. A few years later he became VP of Sales and was named President in 2008, with Mike switching to the role of CEO. The two of them, along with a good team, worked together for many years to ensure the success and growth of the business.

Nipomo opened in 2009.
San Luis Obispo opened in 2010.
Santa Paula opened in 2017.
Goleta opened in 2019.

After a lifetime of work, Mike Miner retired in 2022. He is enjoying retirement, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Today, Miner's Ace Hardware remains a family owned and operated business committed to legendary customer service by outstanding employees. It ranks among the top 10 Ace Retailers nationwide.
